Healthy Cooking Series Classes

Many of us find that just getting a meal on the table for dinner each night is enough of a challenge, then we throw in the word "healthy" and we have shear panic! Through the Healthy Cooking Series of classes, we will show you how to revamp your lifestyle by educating you about food and new cooking techniques that will transform your thinking AND your body!

  • *Pricing for each individual class is $75 per class for 1 participant or $60 per person for 2 or more participants. This tuition is due at the time of registration.
  • **If taking all 4 classes in the series, cost for 1 participant is $270 or $225 per person for 2 or more participants. This tuition is due at the time of enrollment or a deposit can be arranged with the instructor. All prices as stated here do NOT include the cost of food.
  • Prices include hands on instruction and recipe cards and/or booklets plus applicable hand-outs for each class.

Session 1: Cleanout & Start Fresh!

  • What can I do to lead a healthier lifestyle? (5 daily goals)
  • What are Superfoods?
  • Herb and Spice "primer" - using herbs, spices and citrus to enhance the flavor of food without adding extra fat and calories? (*Make a homemade seasoning blend + 2 pages of recipes)
  • The importance of WATER and Human Health
  • Pantry cleanout - what to look for, what to "weed" out. (Individual clean out assistance may be added for an additional fee*)
  • Suggested grocery list for a fresh start. (Individual shopping assistance may be added for an additional fee*)
  • Healthful meal preparation: Turkey Tagine with Whole Wheat Couscous, lemon broccoli


Session 2: Reading Your Food Labels part 1

  • Reading the Nutrition Label and Ingredient lists on food products
  • Nutrients: How much of the "good" and limiting the "bad".
  • All about Fats
  • Sodium
  • Cholesterol
  • All about Carbohydrates = Sugars, Fiber and Complex Carbohydrates
  • A few words about "Organic" and EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides 
  • Healthful meal preparation: Stuffed Peppers Two Ways
  • Wholesome grains: Wholegrain Pilaf 


Session 3: Reading Your Food Labels part 2

  • Choosing what to buy: what do all those terms mean? ("low calorie", "% fat free", "free range", "natural", "sugar free", etc)
  • The top 10 worst food additives to avoid and why.
  • Homemade salad dressings - Buttermilk Ranch Salad + recipe booklet
  • Quick and Healthy Weeknight Meals, part 1 (choose 2 below)
    • Healthier Homemade Sloppy "Joeys" with celery root and apple slaw
    • Chicken Sausage with Peppers, Onions and Whole Wheat Pasta
    • Orange Glazed Wild Salmon, Sweet Potato Mash


Session 4: Creating Healthy Meals

  • Healthy eating guidelines and tips for being successful.
  • Planning  healthy meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks
  • Using healthier substitutes in recipes
  • The Art of the Vinaigrette - Italian Vinaigrette Salad + recipe booklet
  • Quick and Healthy Weeknight Meals, part 2 (choose 2 below)
    • Chili rubbed steaks with pan salsa and Parmesan polenta
